The Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards is back and is celebrating its 10th year with a host of exciting new changes.


The Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards is back and is celebrating its 10th year with a host of exciting new changes.

Entries are open for Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards, back for a 10th instalment with some changes following a two-year hiatus.  

For the first time, and with One-eyed Jack as a custodian, comedic content creators and ad agencies can enter. Entries close on 8 January, with awards expected to take place in April 2023 in Johannesburg. 

The uplifting comedy, burn of the year, and funny is funny awards will go out for public vote after nominees are announced in March. Savanna Comics’ Choice Award winners will take home Waldo statuettes and prize hampers valued at R5 000. 

In a press statement, Savanna cider brand manager Kayla Hendricks said the awards gave them the opportunity to uplift the nation through humour by celebrating the iconic comedians who kept the country laughing. 

“The Comics’ Choice Awards is a platform to showcase long-standing and up-and-coming local talent and to collaborate on how the industry grows and becomes a sustainable livelihood for these talents comedians.”

“By taking on the reins, our aim is to rebuild the platform, to support new talent and to profile and celebrate industry icons,” One-eyed Jack managing director Manuela Dias de Deus said in a press statement. “We’re doing our bit to help SA’s incredible talent shine.”
